The first Issue is… How We look for ‘Them’

Scientists have been on the lookout for radio signals from distant planets as a clue to Life Elsewhere. Never mind that radio signals are a very slow-moving medium.

Also never mind that Advanced Space Faring Aliens, are… Well, would be way beyond our level of technology. Radio is an earthbound, limited range of communicating, without having satellites in orbit to (re)transmit them. Radio would be a ‘slow mover’ sign across the galaxies.

We as humans have only had radio for about one hundred years. And while our technology has grown exponentially in the last fifty or so years, that’s not a long time for even us.

In Star Trek, they have “sub-space frequencies” to transmit real-time communications and video. You may say, “Well that’s science fiction!” Except that I am writing this (and you are reading this) on technology that was in the realm of science fiction not that many years ago.

We do not have Warp-capable starships at this time, and we don’t have the ability to communicate over vast distances. It took over sixteen hours for radio…
